April 3, 2001 In a 1970 memo from Monsanto Legal in St. Louis to the Monsanto plant manager in Anniston, Alabama, the legal department tells the manager that they have reviewed their "proposed letter to Joe Crockett" [Technical Staff Director of the Alabama Water Improvement Commission] and expressed "extreme reluctance" to report their actual emissions of PCBs because it would show that they do not have control over the pollutants their plant was releasing. The document concludes with the author pleading "is there anything more that can be done..."
